Resolution Impala Saracens were almost there, but time could not allow for a comeback.
The Gazelles started slow and full of self restriction while Kabras who were playing at home went all out as soon as referee Allan Wanjohi blew the kick off whistle.
Perminus Macharia went over the chalk in the 2nd minute but Kabras fullback – Phillip Wokorach failed to convert. 15 minutes later, Kabras hooker – Geophrey Shtambo touched down from maul. His efforts were topped up by a neatly struck conversion by Wokorach. Mohammed Omollo would have collected 6 points for the Gazelles but his boot struck wide on two occasions. It was a little difficult understanding Tyson Okoth’s yellow card in the 37th minute. But worth noting is the drastic improvement in discipline by the Gazelles ever since the 2017 section of the league season began. He was the only player binned on this particular weekend. While Okoth was serving time on the sinner’s chair, Kabras Captain George Nyambua scored in the 38th minute. Wokorach’s boot collected the extras sending the Kakamega ASK showground into dramatic applause.
HT: Impala 0-19 Kabras
As admitted by Nyambua – the Kabras captain, his team struggled to outplay the Sarries who gradually shed their self-restriction coat as the second half proceeded. Leon Adongo scored at the corner in the 47th minute but Omollo’s boot struck just short. Impala 5-19 Kabras. Kabras would reply 10 minutes later through a Nyambua try. Wokorach converted & it was assumed that Impala would never gather enough motivation for a honorable full time score. Adongo would collect from a quick 8-9 play by Oimbo and Onsomu. His beating the Kabras backs and brilliant booting by George Okowa reduced Impala’s trail by only 2 converted tries. Mark Kwemoi’s self converted try in the 77th minute sent chills down the loud Kabras fans vertabral columns. Impala were slowly inching closer. Scoreboard callout: Impala 19-26 Kabras. Silence gripped the ASK showground for a minute before Wokorach booted over penalty, adding 3 points to his team and successfully securing his team a comfortable margin. Although Okowa intercepted, scored and converted it was another case of too little too late as Allan Wanjohi blew his mouthpiece to give the Kabras fandom a sigh of relief.
