Will the Resolution Impala Saracens Gazelles outpace the KCB Lions?
IMG_0742

It goes without doubt that this is a match to be wary of. KCB just won the 2014- 2015 Kenya Cup season after beating 3 time back to back winners – Top Fry Nakuru Rfc. Impala go into this match the ultimate underdogs having finished 6th in the recently concluded league. If the encounter with Western Bulls & Tens’ performance in Nakuru is a yardstick from where performance could be gauged, then we could be in for a long day at the KCB sports Club in Ruaraka. If Resolution Impala Saracens want to win this match, key areas of play must be treated with utmost urgency. It will go down to 3 aspects of play, the set piece, territorial play and conversion of penalties to points. On paper, KCB look pretty, with accolades dotting every corner of their trophy cabinet. The Resolution Impala Saracens Gazelles however not so beautiful on paper, can put up a decent fight when it comes down to drawing knock out ball. The match which shall be overseen by referees Victor Oduor, Raymond Oruo & Nicholas Gachoya promises a lot of action in both the forwards’ and backs’ departments.

Forwards

Fluid prop, Obino Edgar starts at loose head. He is joined by an ever compose Karani Kelvin at hooker. Bulky Juma Stephen receives the nod to begin at tight head.

It will be interesting to watch lock Kerre Erick break out of his shell like he did last weekend in Nakuru. His efforts mesh seamlessly with Makori Davis, another lock well known for his ruthless carry.

The back row combination that won against Western Bulls is faced with a challenge. Okari Felix comes in to replace Ouko John who sustained a shoulder injury earlier during the week. He joins Joel Omer and Duncan Ekasi. It would be important for Okari to step up & fill in the cracks as KCB are well known for maximizing on pick up after scrum.

Backs

Onsomu Samson and Anthony Nyandigisi’s partnership at scrumhalf & fly half has not been altered.

Aringo Robert will be playing his second top tier match after months at the sick bay. It will be an electric spectacle witnessing him barge over the opponent’s centres before offloading to his outside centre – Okowa George for a landing.

Ian Minjire features as a surprise inclusion at blind wing. Fast footed Pius Shiundu & Oliech Samuel maintain their right wing and full back positions respectively.
